It's also possible the others are in need of them, but they haven't been.   Operation Paperback is a charity that sends books and magazines to soldiers and their families. This is invaluable for people on the front lines who can’t stream the latest video, aren’t close to a library and are nowhere near a movie theater.

It operates approximately 3, high street betting shops in the United Kingdom, Italy, Ireland, Spain, and Belgium under the Ladbrokes, Coral, Gala, Ladbrokes Australia, and Eurobet brand names, as well as online operation in Australia. The book does not provide a fixed story-line as such, but is rather a collection of eye witness accounts of the heavy fighting that took place in this part of France after the Omaha landings. To me that is the main importance. the excellent and gripping accounts of the men that actually fought there in the 6 weeks the book .

But in the part of Portobello Road that lies within the Ladbroke area, The Duke of Wellington, the Castle, Portobello Gold, Portobello Star and First Floor (formerly The Colville) are still in operation, although the Portobello Star in particular is now more of a cocktail bar than a traditional pub. Operation Ladbroke is one of the most remarkable stories of the war. It was the opening move of Operation Husky, the Allied invasion of Sicily in July. The book 'Feat of Arms' tells the full story of Operation Ladbroke, when glider troops, supported by SAS and commandos, invaded Sicily to capture Syracuse Operation Ladbroke – Feat of Arms Operation Ladbroke and the glider assault on Syracuse, Sicily.

I started this website in to accompany the research I have been doing for my book “Feat of Arms“, which focuses on the invasion of Sicily on 9/10 July in the Syracuse area, in Operation Ladbroke book the glider assault codenamed Operation Ladbroke.

During my research I have come across many fascinating places, documents, photographs and stories. Buy Operation Ladbroke - From Dream to Operation Ladbroke book A First-hand Account of the Airborne Assaults on Sicily and Arnhem by Waldron, Alec (ISBN: ) from Amazon's Book Store.

Operation Ladbroke ( July ) was a British airborne operation which captured the Ponte Grande bridge on the southern approach to Syracuse, despite a rather scattered landing. The target of the operation was the Ponte Grande bridge, a twin-span bridge that crossed the River Anapo and the Mammaiabica Canal on the southern approach to Syracuse.

Regarding the book’s treatment of the area of this website’s special focus (Operation Ladbroke and the invasion of Sicily), I can say with more confidence that there is nothing particularly new.

The Sicily section of the book reads like a summary of predecessor books, with some of the juiciest nuggets cherry-picked. Until now, book-length personal records of the SAS in Sicily, written while memories were fresh, totalled exactly one.

For fans and historians who find such first-hand accounts invaluable, Peter Davis’ exciting new book has doubled our treasure.

On the night of 9/10 July a force of Waco gliders, towed by British and US Dakota, Halifax and Albemarle tug aircraft, took off from North Africa to take part in Operation Ladbroke – the first Allied attempt at a mass glider landing in World War II.

Their objectives and respective codenames for Operation Ladbroke were as follows: 1. "Waterloo". Capture the Ponte Grande road bridge over the Canal Mammaiabica and its associated bridge across the River Anapo. "Putney". Capture the railway bridge across the same waterways, a mile to the west of the Ponte Grande.

"Mosquito". Operation Varsity (24 March ) was a successful airborne forces operation launched by Allied troops that took place toward the end of World War ing more t paratroopers and several thousand aircraft, it was the largest airborne operation in history to be conducted on a single day and in one location.

Varsity was part of Operation Plunder, the Anglo-American-Canadian.
